Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) Magnetic resonance imaging

ilustrace GE Signa Excite HD 1.5T

MRI device installed in DC Mediscan is device with system HD (high definition), which allows user to state diagonosis more easily than without... (Learn more).

ilustrace Information for patients

MRI examination time may last from 15 min. to 1 hr. depends on used examination sequences and on the need of contrast agent use. Before you come for examination you should know some facts... (Learn more).

ilustrace Examination outputs

MRI gives a very good imaging of soft tissues which next modalities are not able to display in right quality. Besides standard images we are able to do images

of vessels (MR angiography) in such quality that sometimes is possible to avoid conventional angiography. (Learn more).

Basic MRI working principles

MRI is a unique imaging method because, unlike the usual radiographs (x-rays), radioisotope studies, or even Computed Tomography (CT) scanning, it does not rely on ionizing radiation. Instead, radiofrequency waves are directed at protons, the nuclei of hydrogen atoms, in a strong magnetic field. The protons are first "excited" and then "relaxed," emitting radio signals that can be computer-processed to form an image. In the body, protons are most abundant in the hydrogen atoms of water — the "H" of H2O — so that an MRI image shows differences in the water content and distribution in various body tissues. Even different types of tissue within the same organ, such as the gray and white matter of the brain, can easily be distinguished. Typically an MRI examination consists of two to six imaging sequences, each lasting two to 15 minutes. Each sequence has its own degree of contrast and shows a cross-section of the body in one of several planes (right to left, front to back, upper to lower). (Learn more).

MRI department

MRI examination today becomes a mandatory for diagnosis statement. Increasing demand on MRI examination together with a long examination times cause that patient must wait a long time even in faculty hospitals.
Our department is equiped by the most modern GE technology and became one of the top MRI facilities in Czech Republic.
MRI facility is first of all ment to be a service point for reffering physicians from other ambulatories and hospitals. We do the whole scale of MRI examination including MR angiography. Operating hours (Mon-Fri 8-20 hr.) lead to minimalization of patient waiting times.
